Celebrating the first glut of the year! Recipe Link

by on March 25, 2015

GreensConsidering the fact that we didn’t really expect to be growing anything at all at this point in the year, experiencing our first glut should be a real cause for celebration!

We are getting a lot of green leaves: oriental greens, peppery hot mustard greens, misuna, chinese cabbage and even a little bit of straight forward lettuce! So if you’re getting a bit bored here’s a pretty unusual recipe for pickled mustard greens. Its for mustard greens but Alys Fowler (in Abundance:How to store and preserve your garden produce) suggests you could use mustard greens, radish tops or oriental greens, or even a mixture which sounds pretty much up our street!

It seems like a real treat to be eating such fresh, healthy greens at this time of year when nearly everything else we are eating (potatoes, carrots, turnip) is stored from the Autumn. So lets say hurrah for our first glut and look forward to many more!
