Drink your greens: Juicing Recipes

Green Smoothies Are Good for your HealthOK so we are definitely getting a lot of lovely leafy greens  in our crop shares. Its great to get veg that is so fresh and packed with goodness at this time of year but using them up is sometimes proving a challenge.

At Saturday morning crop share collection the talk was all about juicing! It seems that a few members are finding that a glass of juiced leaves and some other fruit and vegetables easily takes care of those leaves.

Some people have invested in super whizzy new juicers that do amazing things, but others are happy with a blender. If you fancy a go there’s a juicer available for loan! Its up on site. Just record that you’ve borrowed it on the payment sheet and bring it back in a couple of weeks after you’ve enjoyed a load of lovely juices! And just in case you’re not sure where to start here’s a couple of recipes courtesy of super-juicer Keren!

Tomavocado

  • 50% mixed greens
  • 1/2 avacado
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 handful corriander
  • juice 1/2 lime

Swiss Mix

  • 50% Swiss chard
  • 50% mixture of fruit:
    • 1/2 banana
    • 1/2 cup blueberries
    • 10 walnut halves
    • 1 tsp maca powder

For both recipes just blend together. In the second one if you are using an ordinary blender you may need to blend up the walnuts using an attachment for nuts. Also maca powder is made from a Peruvian root, you can buy it from health food shops.
