Planning, Planning

by on February 18, 2016
squashIan is now working out how to get enough for 60 crop shares off the two acres of Go Local fields this season.
There will be no pumpkins on Go Local site except for the mini ichi kiri, the crown prince, butternut and spaghetti squashes.Lets hope for sunny weather this year! Sunny weather is required for good pumpkin crops.
In other words we aren’t growing the monster autumn pumpkins for carving. This is due to the plants taking up so much space, water, nutrition and time. There’s a skill to getting pumpkins big enough – it’s time consuming and definitely space consuming. Never mind the slug defences required! So the planning says more space for other goodies.
Early potatoes are going into the Halls of Heddon part of the fields and Ian is putting some rows of main crop potatoes in the first field where part of the muck heaps have been worked in during the last week. Planning was originally said the other way around as Maxine wasn’t sure if Hall’s would need land in August and September.
