Free Range Pork

by on March 12, 2016

free range pigsWe have an opportunity to buy some free range outdoor reared pork from Allendale in the North Pennines.

Broadwood Bridge Farm run a very small scale smallholding, with woodland, pasture and hay meadow to support a few free range pigs, sheep, cows and poultry along with two working horses who extract timber from ours and other local woodlands. Two or three times a year they have outdoor bred and reared Large Black crossed with Welsh pigs, fed mainly on barley and peas grown on a farm in Haydon Bridge.

They are keen to work with us and if any of our members would like to visit their small-holding they would be keen to show us round.

The next pork will be available later this week so you need to be quick if you want to order!! There are 2 options below – if you’d like to place an order please email fi@golocalfood.org.uk and we’ll put an order in on behalf of the cooperative – please let us know by Saturday if you can, or early next week if not. Please also let us know if you’d be interested in this in the future but just not now.

  1. Mixed box of pork £65  – to include a mix of roasting joints, sausage, bacon to the cumulative value of £65. (approx 1.5 kilo of sausage, 1 kilo bacon and 3.5 kilo roasting joints)
  2. Large box – £120 – to include a similar mix to above but with more of each and additional Gammon roasting joints and chops, other cuts available on request

The joints come labelled and vacuum packed. Here’s a link to their Facebook page
