Outdoor Oddments

by on April 11, 2016

EggsRemember the Scottish Ducks that once inhabited the bottom of the top field at Ovington? Well some of their descendants who are living at Temperley and are producing duck eggs that members can order.

The rocket tubs which have been quietly growing around the poly tunnels are eventually filling up. There is lovage (a little), lemon balm and the garlic chives that Ian showed from saved seeds are eventually showing face. Summer savoury is about to go in as well.

Most of the winter vegetables have been cleared from the fields with only the mooli still in. Broad beans and onions can be seen thriving over on the top field.

Ian has some trays of seedling up at Temperley – those that need keeping warm showing the advantage of a heated greenhouse over what it would cost to keep the poly tunnels warm. But there are plenty of seedlings coming along in the working poly tunnel as well. It will soon be time to start filling up the fields.
