Well planted up polytunnels

by on November 26, 2016

poltynnelwith hanging basketsDespite the frost that has been lying deep and crisp and even for most of the week, the poly tunnels at Go Local Food are well planted up for the winter.

This week English kale and pak choi have been planted through black bio degradable cornstarch – that’s to help keep down the weeds of course.

The hanging baskets are producing some items for the weekly crop share as you can see from the picture! And if you look carefully on the right you can just see the nose and hat of Sean. Remember Sean who used to work one day a week for Go Local Food? Well he dropped in during his travels on Friday to see how things were getting on. He had questions one after another and kept Ian busy answering them for a time.

Ian is waiting for a delivery of recycled compost to arrive to allow himself and the work shares to continue planting up onions in the last poly tunnel so that we have green onions as part of the crop share next year. Some are already planted but it’s hard to work in a poly tunnel without compost!
