The propagator shed is back to work

by on February 12, 2017

celeriacIt’s time to start off the early seeds for the season at Go Local Food. Jude has already put broad beans in modules in one of the poly tunnels and these will be the first of many.

Celeriac needs a long growing season to mature and will be set off in the propagator shed. Leeks can be set away as well and definitely it’s time to consider the early season brassicas.

A lot of our brassicas are being produced by Halls of Heddon in their heated greenhouses for us but the early season ones Go Local Food is doing for ourselves.

With the weather being cold and wet a lot of us don’t think so far ahead but to provide a constant supply of vegetables for crop shares through the year we do have to be organised. It may be quieter for a few weeks in the depth of winter but there is no such thing as no work to do for growers.
