The Willow Lady needs friends

willow womanThe great annual scarecrow competition day is almost upon us. Next Saturday – March 25th – is the day when all the scarecrows should arrive at the Go Local Food fields ready for being judged and then put in place around the crops to help scare away the pests.

Have you all been busy making scarecrows? You still have a few days in which to create one if you haven’t done so already. We look forward to seeing you between 10 am and 12 noon.

The willow lady will not look quite so lonely when there are other “people” permanently around the fields to keep her company.

I’m told that her wheelbarrow will not be needed later in the season. Grower Ian says that it has seen the best of its working life and doesn’t stay together well enough for use by the work shares. Yes, if you look very closely you can see that it is held together in very strange ways. Phew. Glad to know that we aren’t short of a wheelbarrow!

Next Saturday will also be the next All Hands Saturday where members and volunteers are asked to give an hour or two of work to help out with all the odd tasks that need doing on the fields. It should be a good day to stop by and see the scarecrows too.
