The small working poly tunnel is full of crops shooting away ready for planting out later in the year. Good news for crops shares to come then.
Out on the Go Local Food fields the early potatoes have been planted where Brussels sprouts were cleared. The farmer has at last had time to come and plough the top field. That will allow the soil to be worked over during the next two weeks so that it is fit for planting up. Plans are also in hand to ready last year’s pumpkin patch for the next crop and to get to work on the old duck run that will be the children’s area.
But let’s remember the old poem about April which still rings very true:
The sun was warm but the wind was chill.
You know how it is with an April day.
When the sun is out and the wind is still,
You’re one month on in the middle of May.
But if you so much as dare to speak,
a cloud come over the sunlit arch,
And wind comes off a frozen peak,
And you’re two months back in the middle of March.
