Due to the rain (lovely stuff after all the complaints about how dry it has been) the work shares have been driven indoors this week. They have been busy in the poly tunnels weeding, tying up, tidying up and sowing more seeds to keep the crops coming.
This week has seen fennel, lettuce, kale, beetroot, chard, pak choi, chinese cabbage, rocket, spinach and late peas for the Growing Gang being sown in the working poly tunnel.
As it didn’t rain quite all week it has been possible to plant out the Uchiki Kiri, pumpkins and some leeks in the Go Local Food fields during the week.
Rabbit proof gates are also being constructed indoors to help protect the crops from these pests. These gates will be on hinges – now there’s a novelty and there will need to be training won’t there? Gates on hinges are a very new introduction to Go Local Food but will meet the great outdoors as soon as it stops raining.
