Getting things in the ground

cabbagesGo Local Food looks to be having a good brassica year as all those planted out are thriving. You all like cabbages, kale and other brassicas don’t you?

The last of the winter brassicas are due to be planted out as soon as there are spare hands. There’s 250 metres of bio degradable cornstarch laid out ready for Ian and the work shares to fill up.

Planting out at the moment includes two sorts of kale, purple sprouting broccoli, fennel, beetroot, Pak Choi, parsnips and Chinese cabbage.

The tomatoes, look to be good and also the potatoes though the cucumbers seem to be slow and not as tall as expected at this stage. All in all, our members can look forward to a good summer – weather and pests permitting (aren’t gardeners and growers cheerful people?).
