Working in the community

dwarf beans planted outGo Local Food is a co-operative that grows quality, tasty, seasonal vegetables. Our fields are in Ovington next to the Halls of Heddon nursery site. The fields overlook the Tyne Valley. It is a beautiful, tranquil, sunny spot – you also get a good view of any rain clouds moving along the valley! In addition to the fields we have four poly tunnels which enable us to grow crops during the cooler winter weather.

We harvest our vegetables weekly and members call by the fields to collect their share. Check us out at www.golocalfood.org.uk

GO Local Food has been growing for five years and we are now ready to branch out further into the community.

There are great therapeutic qualities in growing. Gardening is now recognised as being helpful to people with dementia, dealing with bereavement, loneliness or mental health issues. We know that we provide a great resource for people who need a bit of space, like purposeful activity, enjoy being outside, want to learn or carry on growing and enjoy the company of others.

We wondered if you or your group that would be interested in using us as a resource in the work that you are doing – befriending or supporting individuals or groups in the community. It is sometimes useful to have access to activities that volunteers can use with the people they are supporting. We offer an environment that might connect with some of your users and volunteers.
