We have a dream

harvest vegetablesGo Local Food has a dream of becoming a community farm and Abundant Earth near Durham is such a one with many ideas that we could develop. Abundant Earth is a small workers’ cooperative based on 15 acres of land outside Durham. The area is divided into veg growing, free range chickens, a flock of sheep and fruit trees. They say of themselves:

Food, Craft and Courses
We grow veg, salad and fruit to supply our veg bag scheme.
Using material grown on the farm or from near by we make and sell craft items such as baskets, rugs, spoons, walking sticks and more.
We run courses on a range of subjects including permaculture, willow baskets, peg loom rugs, fruit tree grafting, felt items, spoon carving, hedge laying and other land and craft based activities.
Additionally we also provide consultancy in permaculture design, fruit tree management, bespoke ceremonies, green building design.

This shows what can be done by a workers’ cooperative and shows some of the things that we at Go Local Food could aspire to do in the future!
