All the derelict sprout plants have been lifted and composted to clear the space for potato planting. And some ploughing of the resulting space has been done. There is going to be top dressing of the area with second hand compost and then comes the planting of First Early Potatoes (Rocket and Pentland Javelin with second early Orla too but these will stand to main crop if we don’t get them in with the first planting).
In the poly tunnels the pricking out of chard, lettuce and coriander is ongoing with an urgent need to pot on the watercress.
Work all depends on the weather of course – the Met Office says it’s a mixed bag of weather for the Easter weekend but have put off the snow and sleet till mid week after Easter. Who knows? Go Local Food has already had a delayed start to the growing season with a good covering of snow that cancelled one crop share (happened to many other crop share and veg box schemes that week too).
