A sad ending

Blackbird nestSomething has wrecked the blackbird’s nest in the Palace. Creature not known but could be stoat or weasel. Luckily it’s early enough in the season for the blackbird to start another brood.

Ian our grower had to move a half built robin’s nest from the potato planter as it is now urgently required to get the potatoes into the ground now that the weather has improved a little. This nest had no bottom so the robin has a chance to start again elsewhere – at least this time there were no eggs laid.

Meanwhile the wood pigeons are partying on the Go Local Food fields and a rapid round up of netting has been required to defend the newly planted out summer cabbages – seems there would be no chance of these lasting till tomorrow morning without defence.
