A member’s interesting holiday visit

Willow structureWhilst Leigh Garside, one of our members, was on holiday in Wales she took time to visit the Centre for Alternative Technology. “CAT is an education and visitor centre demonstrating practical solutions for sustainability. We cover all aspects of green living: environmental building, eco-sanitation, woodland management, renewable energy, energy efficiency and organic growing.”

Leigh says she saw lots of ways to make life more eco-friendly but a couple of things that stuck out were the willow tunnel (nothing on our willow wench though) and the bug hotel which was a planter and wall with lots of holes in it from bricks and logs for larger predators to live in and feast on pests like aphids. There were also loads of examples of low building materials, different composting types and strategies for growing food, for instance a forest garden!!
